We have very much enjoyed seeing all our students settling into the new school year, and last week’s welcome evenings have given staff an opportunity to meet parents in every area of the school. We strive to make these events as helpful as possible, while also trying to focus on issues that are specific to particular year groups, so that everyone may embark on the new session in good heart and with confidence. (Meetings for Nursery children and Primary One children are scheduled for later this term, once the children have had a chance to settle into their daily routines.)
One of the things that make an all-through school like St George’s such an interesting and dynamic place to be is the opportunity we have here to develop coherent learning and teaching strategies across the school for all pupils, making the transition from one part of the school to another seamless. Providing a broad education while equipping each individual with the skills for life that will help her to become a citizen of the global community seems to me to be a huge privilege and responsibility. An excellent education, with the individual at its heart and within an international context, is what we strive to deliver: we place a strong emphasis on responsibility, but also on adventure, offering numerous opportunities for girls to broaden their horizons as well as their understanding of the world.
And every individual counts. I hope that this message, above all, is the one that you will continue to hear and trust at St George’s.
