Alex Hems: Head's Blog January 1, 2017
I hope that the Christmas holiday has given all members of the St George's community the opportunity for a really restful and refreshing break. The calendar and news pages show what a very busy end of term it was and the Spring term looks set to be similarly varied and rich in both learning and fun. It is a great privilege to be joining a school with such a strong tradition of educating girls and young women, where every girl is enabled to fulfil her potential, develop a sense of her own identity and become a leader in her own education, yet still know what it is to be part of a community. I would like to pay tribute to the vision and energy of Mrs Everest through whose hard work and leadership so much has been achieved here. The warmth of St George's has struck me on every visit; I have been fortunate to have met the staff on several occasions now and have been deeply impressed by their professionalism and dedication. I look forward to seeing them all on Monday 9th January. A school is always a strangely quiet place without its pupils, however, so it will be a great pleasure to meet the girls when term starts on Tuesday.
I am delighted that there is a formal opportunity for me to meet the parent body in the first week of term; you are warmly invited to 'Meet the Head' at 6.30pm on Thursday 12th January. Over the coming weeks I will be getting to know parents, girls and staff as we go about the business of the term. The promise and potential of a new year are always exciting; I look forward to sharing this one and many more with you all and wish you a very happy and successful 2017.
