A Message from the Head, 22 May 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians
I am sure that you will have heard the announcement yesterday from the Scottish Government, regarding the re-opening of schools in August.
The Leadership Team at St George’s has been working for the last few weeks, preparing for a number of different scenarios, and it is good to have greater clarity now to guide us in our planning. Safety and continuity of education will continue to be our priorities. Over the next few days we will develop our plans in greater detail before sharing them with you formally.
It is not our intention to change the date for the start of the autumn term. We will be in contact with our overseas families, however, to explain arrangements that will be in place for boarders to start to return and to manage quarantine before term starts formally. We are aware that induction of students into a new way of working and being at school will take some time, so we will offer some of our induction and transition events in person, especially for the youngest girls, towards the end of June, as suggested in the government framework. We also plan to use the days leading up to the start of term for induction of students into the new arrangements, in manageable groups, to ensure as smooth a start as possible when term begins on 20th August.
With my best wishes to you all,
Mrs Alex Hems MA Oxon
Head, St George's School for Girls, Edinburgh
