Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
Nine Remove girls played in the Primary 7 Invitational Hockey Tournament hosted by The Mary Erskine School on Saturday. We had a great start to the tournament by beating Strathallan 2-0. We then were straight back on the pitch to play Edinburgh Academy. Knowing this was going to be a tough fixture, the girls were up for the challenge from the start. Edinburgh Academy scored an early goal but St George’s bounced back straight away to equalize. The game was very exciting, open, end-to-end play. Edinburgh Academy managed to convert two more of their chances whilst we were unable to.
The last group match was against George Watson's College. We had to beat them to go through to the semi-finals. The girls played a super match, taking the game to them from start to finish and won 2-0. We went on to play The Mary Erskine School in the semi-finals, who had won all their matches so far. Our girls were on a roll and playing some lovely hockey. We scored from an early opportunity and continued to apply the pressure, winning 1-0 to advance to the final. The girls dug deep to produce 16 minutes more of excellent team work in the final. We scored in the second minute of the final and played a similar match to the semi-finals, putting Dollar Academy under pressure with some lovely team play. The final score was 1-0 to St George’s. This really is a fantastic achievement and the girls should be very proud of themselves as this is the first time St George's have won the tournament.
