Germantown Friends School Exchange
Waking up before dawn on Friday 12 January was the start to hopefully an eventful month. After meeting everyone at the Dragon at 7am we took the school minibus to the airport. On the way to the airport everyone was very nervous thinking about how to greet our new guests, even though we had already spoken to our exchanges. Once arriving at the airport we went into Costa for an early morning snack. When the screen said that their flight's luggage had arrived, we unravelled our massive banner that said “Welcome to Scotland” together with all our little posters with our exchanges’ names on them. Other people from other flights all laughed and thanked us when they came out of the departures hall. We were even considering putting out a hat!
After half an hour of standing, with our arms feeling achy, they finally appeared from behind the doors. The first five minutes were slightly awkward but after introducing ourselves we all became best friends within minutes. On the bus back to school we were all talking about the differences between British and American words such as stationery and writing supplies. When we arrived at school we chatted even more at the Boarding House until our exchanges had to go to get their uniforms. We got to meet back up with our partners for lunch and show them round school. We are all looking forward to spending the next 4 weeks with each other and showing the GFS girls round school, Edinburgh and Scotland.
