Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
All Primary 3, 4 and 5 pupils have sent in entries to the Tesco Bank Art Competition for Schools. This competition attracts over 7,000 entries from schools in Scotland. The prize is £100 of funding for art materials or a free artist-led workshop at the National Galleries of Scotland.
Junior School have entered two categories, each with a different theme inspired by the national art collection. Primary 4 and 5 were inspired by the theme Makers of Magic and Primary 3 were inspired by the theme of big cats.
We sent in many imaginative entries and hope some of the work will be selected for public display in the gallery. We hope you enjoy looking at our art and we will display these wonderful paintings and drawings in our annual Futures Room exhibition which opens on Wednesday 20 June. Well done to everyone in P3, P4 and P5 for taking part and working so hard!
The theme for Nursery children was A Place to Live. We had interesting discussions with the Nursery children on what actually makes a home. 'Caves, princess castles, webs, boxes, cushions, the sea and igloos' were some of their thoughts. The sea as a home is a great idea and was inspired by our beach visits. We worked as a team on a large collage using oil pastels, paints, recycled elements and natural objects to create fantastical sea creatures in a spectacular ocean home. The children also submitted some individual graphic artworks of their fantasy homes. Great fun was had by all!
