Merchiston Games Morning and Water of Leith Walk

IMG 7583On Friday 4th May, Primary 6 went to Merchiston Castle School for a games morning with the boys. We started by eating our snacks when we arrived outside the Pringle Centre and then we were placed into four groups and went into our first activity, which was a ten minute quiz with one hundred questions. The questions were random. My favourite question was ‘What is the fairy called who helps Peter Pan?’ Then we progressed to the second activity. We arrived at a camp fire and were told to surround the fire. The safety rules were explained and then we roasted marshmallows on a long stick. Once everyone had eaten their marshmallow, we played a murder mystery game but … there was no murder! There were two detectives and if they asked a question that ended with a vowel then we had to say yes. If it ended with a consonant, we said no.

Then we walked over to the pitch to our next activity, which was rounders. We were split into two teams, a batting team and a fielding team. We had a teacher to supervise us and tell us what to do. We had to run round all the bases and try to score a round. Next, we proceeded to our final activity of capture the flag. We played boys vs girls and most of the girls' teams won. The boys also worked hard, but they were not as successful as us! Then we went back to the Pringle Centre and collected our packed lunch. We were able to sit outside on the grass and have a picnic lunch as the weather was lovely. When we finished our lunch, we were allowed to play in the playground. Then we said thank you to everyone at Merchiston for hosting us for the games morning. A couple of minutes later we went on a three hour walk past the Water of Leith back to St George's. In the middle of walking, we went up a steep hill and rolled down it several times. We were also allowed to just sit on the top. After that the journey continued…we walked past the Murrayfield stadium and saw a rugby team practising. It was exciting. We had another fifteen minutes until we arrived back to school. We thanked the language teachers for coming on this journey with us. We all really enjoyed this trip.
