On Friday the 31 August the Sixth Form attended a debate, ‘This house believes there should be a ban on certain books’. Eve and Sheetal spoke for the proposition, addressing valid arguments about the large influence of books on today's society and comparing it to social media, where detrimental messages can be deleted immediately unlike with books.
Olivia and Amy spoke for the opposition, raising relevant points about the violation of freedom of speech and the impact it would have on children's development, having long term effects on society. After the speakers finished, there was a lively floor debate, in which the whole of sixth form participated, contributing their own ideas to the controversial topic.
It was a stimulating debate, presented to a high standard by all the speakers.
