Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
On a wet and windy Tuesday evening the RMC was witness to a musical treat. This was the night that the five finalists of The Young Musician of St George’s School for Girls, Louise, Anna , Lizzie, Caitlin and Sive took to the platform to perform their recital programmes.
The audience, along with the two adjudicators Morag Campbell and Tim Wright, were to experience an evening of advanced technical skills, musicianship, musicality and a maturity and poise which belied the age of the performers. The programme was both diverse and entertaining and the audience was effusive in its support for these young artists as they performed works by Mozart, Chopin, Albinoni, Sammartini and Carcassi on Flute, Piano, Alto Saxophone, Recorder and Guitar.
It was evident as the evening progressed that the judges were going to have a difficult job selecting a winner but they finally came to a decision and decided that the flautist Louise who played the Allegro from the Flute Quartet in D major by Mozart and Hypnosis by Clarke was to be named the Young Musician of St George’s School for Girls 2018.
The evening was a testimony to the students’ endeavour, the dedication of their teachers who had worked tirelessly coaching them and Jonathan Raynor for accompanying them. Thank you to all of them and here’s to 2019.
