Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
During the February Half Term, Mr Leask took 4 keen Upper 6 writers to Moniack Mhor (@moniackmhor), a writing centre in the Highlands of Scotland. Surrounded by beautiful vistas, with a never-ending supply of tea and coffee (and cake!), the students produced some excellent work. They were ably assisted by two excellent tutors, both published authors: Jen Hadfield (@hadfield_jen) and Kevin MacNeil (@Kevin_MacNeil).
During the day, the students had workshops on different styles of writing, while in the afternoon they worked on their pieces, and had one to one slots to discuss their writing in depth. Our evenings comprised readings of prose and poetry - both our own work, and some favourite published poems; all of this took place amongst an idyllic setting, sitting around log burning stoves.
The students had a great time (as did Mr Leask!) and we plan to make this trip an annual event, something for next year's Advanced Higher English cohort to look forward to!
