Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
Primary 5 have been learning about the Scottish Parliament and about democracy. In art lessons Primary 5 looked at the architecture of the Scottish Parliament. Pupils learnt about Enric Miralles - the Spanish (Catalonian) architect who won the competition to design and build the parliament. P5 learnt how Miralles has created one of the most identifiable and award-winning buildings in Europe.
We looked at how each part of the building has been considered and is functional but also has a rich array of symbolic decoration and takes advantage of its site merging into the Holyrood landscape. Primary 5 studied Miralles use of symbols and shapes and worked with coloured and stained papers to create their own collages in homage to Miralles.
Great work P5!
