Blogs and News - St George's School, Edinburgh
In our Monday assembly we all found out about Fresh Start, which is a charity that supports people who have just got a new flat or house but have nothing in it. A lady from Fresh Start came in to tell us all about the charity, then Miss Hippisley told us that all the classes were having a competition for who could fill the most boxes in two weeks. Every day we had loads of full boxes coming in, we had everything from kitchen roll to glass cups to toasters.
On the day before the Fresh Start assembly my class helped Miss Hippisley take all the boxes from the locker room into the hall. We had to lay them out in a row for each class. The next day we all piled into the hall and sat down, then a lady called Jen from Fresh Start spoke to us about how much stuff we had collected. She looked at all the boxes and chose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. In third place was P6P, in second place was P6Q and in first place was P6X! Everyone was very happy. These were the top three, but everyone did a great job collecting. After everyone was out of the hall, we helped Jen load all the boxes into her van. We almost filled the van!
Even though there was a competition, everyone enjoyed it and it made us all happy to know that we had all helped someone settle into their new home.
