Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
On Wednesday 26th February 2020, a quarter of the girls from Lower 4 went to Sainsbury’s on a work experience trip.
We walked from school along the cycle path to Craigleith Retail Park. On arrival, Mrs. Robertson took us to the café and we were told what we were doing.
We were pleasantly greeted by an employer of Sainsbury’s and our questioners, Vanessa and Josephine, asked five amazing questions about the business that we had chosen as a group beforehand. Then we were shown the secrets of Sainsbury’s!
First, we had a tour of the shops that have a mini-store inside of Sainsbury’s including EE, Argos, Habitat and, best of all, their new sushi store! We were shown around the shop floor and then we were treated to a behind the scenes tour of the stockroom where the customers never go!
We had the amazing experience of seeing where all the produce is kept before it makes it to the shop floor, and we were allowed in their massive fridge where they had millions of milk bottles! We had to wear a large luminous yellow jacket for safety precautions when we were shown the delivery area where their enormous delivery trucks arrive, and large cages of produce and groceries are unloaded.
We then all had to partner off and go on a pretend shopping trip. We could buy as much as we liked but sadly could not bring it home, but we did put it through the checkout. We all had a turn at being the cashier and we scanned the items through the checkout using their tills ourselves.
To conclude the trip, we returned to the café where we were given a drink and a bag of crisps. I really enjoyed our trip to Sainsbury's especially seeing behind the scenes. Thank you to Sainsbury’s for letting us come.
