Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
The St George's Lunchtime Challenge is a cooking challenge for Removes. The first heat is being held on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 March. In the first heat all the girls who signed up have to bring in a sandwich we have made and a story board about the sandwich and why we chose to make it. We also have to present a short talk. When we are designing our sandwiches we have to think about healthy eating, season, food miles and also flavour and texture. The judges will then decide on the finalists.
The finalists will then attend a meeting on Wednesday 29 March and are to bring their recipes so they can order the meat and compile a recipe booklet. All the other ingredients are to be supplied by the finalists. The actual final is on Saturday 22 April. The finalists can go along to the kitchen on Saturday from 9:30 to set up. The competition begins at 10am, and then the cooking ends at 12 noon and lunch will be served in the Lansdowne Music Room straight after the prize giving.
The finalists have to prepare and cook a meal (main course and dessert) for 4 people. The meat will be donated by John Brash and the dishes will be served with an accompaniment of vegetables or salad. The dessert can be anything the finalists choose. Each finalist may invite 2 guests to the lunch party.
Good luck to all the entrants - I am sure it will be a treat for the taste buds!
