To finish our topic ‘Food, Glorious, Food’, Primary 2 had a Healthy Day. To start the day off, we had a visit from the dental nurses who told us how to look after our teeth. We were shocked at the amount of sugar there is in some of our favourite snacks and drinks! Then for our snack, we made a healthy sandwich. We had to choose from cheese, ham, tomato and cucumber. They were delicious!
After break, we learnt all about germs and were amazed to find out how far they can travel. We used a germ machine to check how many germs were on our hands before and after washing them. We also did an experiment with oil and glitter. The glitter was the ‘germs’ and we stood in a chain and had to give our neighbour a handshake. We were surprised how far the glitter travelled down the chain. Next, we learnt how to wash our hands properly and learnt the six stages of handwashing.
After lunch, we looked at reversible and irreversible change in some foods. We found that when you cook food, it cannot change back to its original state. We tested this with an egg and some popcorn and even had the chance to taste the popcorn.
We also kept fit at our P.E lesson where we did fitness exercises.
We all had a great day and were very tired that evening!
