Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
The aim of the competition was to encourage schoolchildren to interact with and be inspired by artworks in the National Galleries’ Collection.
This year’s topic was Feathery Friends.
The children had to look at three very different works of art. We discussed the paintings and talked about birds in general. We looked at their different shapes, colours, textures and movement. The girls particularly liked peacocks so we watched a film of a male peacock displaying his tail feathers. Inspired by this, they drew images of peacocks and other birds on different coloured card with metallic pens and bright chalk.
The competition was national and out of 7,700 entries, we received 3rd place and two special merit commendations in the nursery category. Jaanhavi, Phoebe and Eryn were three of the ten winners in this category. Entries were judged on originality and creativity, confident handling of materials, boldness and impact.
Well done girls!
