Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
Every year, Lower 4 pupils undertake a poster project, examining their own values and goals and describing who inspires them and why. We are so pleased that two students have gained awards within this national competition. Katie (L4P), has received a Highly Commended Award, recognising how much thought and effort she put into the completion of her poster. It was beautifully presented and her values and goals were clearly communicated throughout. Katie’s ultimate goal of fighting for world conservation linked well with her chosen inspirational figure of Gerald Durrell OBE, who was author of My Family and Other Animals in addition to many other works about the conservation of animals. He also founded the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust on Jersey in 1959.
Anya (L4P) was one of the Finalists within her age group. Her poster demonstrated her understanding of her own qualities and she referred to her inspirational figure of Sheryl Sandberg to show what her future goals and ambitions are. Sheryl Sandberg is an American technology executive, activist, and author. She is the chief operating officer of Facebook and founder of Leanin.org. In June 2012, she was elected to the board of directors by the existing board members, becoming the first woman to serve on Facebook's board. It was wonderful to witness Anya link the example of Sheryl Sandberg to her own business aspirations.
The Lower 4 Religion and Philosophy teachers have commented on the high standard of work from all the girls, and what a positive exercise it has been for them to spend time and reflect on their own aspirations.
