Department of Business Education

The Business Education Department delivers courses in business, economics and economics. We provide a positive learning environment, keeping up to date with the dynamic nature of the subject and new developments in technology.

The Internet continues to be an invaluable research tool providing the latest news about real businesses and the economy, enabling students to access high quality information and resources. The courses offered broaden students' knowledge and understanding of the real business world and the economy.

Economic forces shape our lives and the lives of those around us. They affect the choices we make as individuals and as a society. Using information and communications technology has become part of the modern business environment to such an extent that it is now an essential tool for all who work in any business environment. The courses provide opportunities to develop problem-solving and team working skills and the ability to present information in a variety of forms.

Fifth Form

The GCSE Business Studies course provides students with the understanding and skills to allow them to progress in the areas of business and economics and be well prepared for the world of work. This course prepares students for the Higher Level courses in the Sixth Form.

Sixth Form

In the Lower Six year students can choose to study SQA Higher Business Management, National 5 Business Management or Higher Economics and then choose to move on to Advanced Higher Business or Advanced Higher Economics in the Upper Six year.

Beyond the Classroom (Extra Curricular)

Students of business and economics in Lower Six are also encouraged to take part in the Young Enterprise Scotland company programme which gives them a practical experience of running a business.
