Little Dragons Nursery Curriculum and Adventures
At St George’s Little Dragons Nursery, we believe young children learn best through play, exploration and meaningful relationships.
Our curriculum is carefully designed to nurture curiosity, confidence and creativity, while supporting each child’s individual development. Every child brings their own interests and ideas, and our teachers use these to shape engaging learning experiences that feel exciting and purposeful.
Working in close partnership with families, we plan learning in line with national guidance including Curriculum for Excellence and Realising the Ambition.
For our youngest children, beginning nursery is an important milestone. We provide a gentle and supportive start, helping children build secure relationships with staff while developing independence and confidence at their own pace.
Learning Through Play
Children’s interests guide much of our learning. One day they might be:
- building castles and cities from blocks
- mixing “potions” in the mud kitchen
- exploring nature outdoors
- asking big questions about how things work
By listening carefully to children’s ideas and fascinations, we create rich learning opportunities that develop language, early maths, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Supporting Emotional Wellbeing
A strong sense of wellbeing sits at the heart of our nursery.
Through stories, songs and mindfulness activities, children learn how to recognise and manage their feelings. Activities such as yoga, relaxation time and familiar stories like The Colour Monster help children develop emotional awareness, empathy and resilience.
Specialist Experiences
One of the unique benefits of being part of St George’s is access to specialist teachers and facilities across the school.
Nursery children enjoy a range of sessions designed especially for young learners, including:
- Physical Education: Weekly sessions develop movement skills such as running, jumping, balancing and ball control.
- Music and Dance: Children explore rhythm, singing and movement with our specialist music teachers.
- Ballet: In partnership with the Manor School of Ballet, children take part in engaging introductory ballet sessions.
- Sports Skills: Play-based sessions with Rugbytots build coordination, teamwork and confidence.
- Library Visits: Weekly visits to the Junior School library encourage storytelling, singing and a lifelong love of books.
These experiences enrich children’s learning and also help them become familiar with the wider school environment as they grow.
Are there opportunities for community engagement?
We believe it is important for children to feel part of the wider community.
Nursery children enjoy regular visits to Murrayfield House Care Home, where they spend time with residents through shared stories, songs and seasonal celebrations. These visits nurture kindness, confidence and meaningful intergenerational connections.
