Miss Anne Macdonald – Violin, Viola and Piano
Born and brought up in the Midlands, Anne was a member of both the Nottinghamshire County Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain before attending the Birmingham School of Music (now the Birmingham Conservatoire) to study Violin, Viola and Piano.
After graduating from Birmingham with a teaching diploma, Anne continued postgraduate studies with Max Rostal in Switzerland and later with Eli Goren in London.
Living and teaching in London enabled her to build up a thriving freelance performing career before moving to Scotland to take up a position in the 1st violin section of the Orchestra of Scottish Ballet, a position that she still holds today.
More recently opportunities to experience yet another aspect of working in the music industry have presented themselves in work as an examiner for Trinity College London. It is the combination of teaching, performing and examining at a high level that Anne feels gives her a quite unique and comprehensive overview of the music profession. She has taught at both St George's and George Heriot's schools for many years now as well as having private pupils closer to home in West Linton.
