Art Sparks Brings Local Students Together

We recently hosted a series of Community Outreach Art Sparks sessions for pupils outside of St George's, led by Carole Crawford and Lorna Grey. Held over four consecutive Friday afternoons in May, these engaging workshops introduced students to various artistic techniques using clay, encouraging creativity and collaboration among participants.
The girls started in week one getting familiar with clay and basic tools, building confidence whilst making patterns and textures. Week two saw them mastering the score and slip technique to join clay pieces properly. By the third session, they were designing and creating their own vessels, before the final week turned the studio into decoration stations where students added their personal touches with paints and polishes.
Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing excitement in discovering their artistic abilities. The tactile nature of clay not only encouraged creative expression but also allowed students to engage in problem-solving and thematic exploration. This sense of achievement has no doubt left lasting impressions on the girls who joined us.
Looking ahead, we are committed to offering more sessions next year, featuring a variety of themes tied to the current curriculum and other areas of interest. This initiative aims to inspire creativity as we continue to extend connections within our community and beyond!
