Food Tech Update: Crème Brûlée and The Royal Highland Show

Our Food Technology department has been cooking up fantastic learning opportunities, proving that the best education combines creativity with sustainability.
Lunchtime Learning Sessions
Every week, our dedicated Food Tech team runs special revision sessions that turn potential food waste into educational gold. When fresh ingredients might go unused due to student absences, our resourceful staff transform them into hands-on learning experiences.
Recent highlights include mastering crème brûlée while exploring the science of bain maries, and testing apple filo pastries to understand sensory analysis and food functionality. Our teaching staff regularly give up their lunch breaks to provide these enriching experiences.
The Royal Highland Show
Our students recently enjoyed a wonderful day at the Highland Show, discovering the farm-to-fork journey while sampling Scottish produce around the honey tent. The learning extended beyond food as students tried beeswax candle making and soap carving, connecting food science with traditional crafts.
