Exploring Art and Professions: P5's Spring Highlights

Jupiter Artland: A Creative Adventure
On Wednesday the 2nd of April we had an amazing day at Jupiter Artland! We travelled there on two mini buses, and some of us even went in Mrs Buchanan's car! When we arrived, we headed straight for the snack room to meet our guide, who told us what we would be seeing and doing that day.
Our first stop was to visit some hills with a pond around them. It was so much fun climbing up the hills, and when we reached the top, everyone gathered to listen to some interesting facts about the artwork. We learned that the art installation was built over seven years! It was really cool to hear about all the effort that went into making it.
After exploring the hills and other art pieces, we had a chance to get creative ourselves. We used natural materials to make our own artwork, inspired by the famous artist Andy Goldsworthy. It was a fantastic experience, and I loved seeing all the beautiful art at Jupiter Artland.
It was a fun and inspiring trip that I'll never forget!

Parents at Work: P5X
P5X welcomed several parents who shared insights into their fascinating careers:
Holly's mum introduced us to the art of floristry. She brought flowers for us to create our own bouquets, using special green foam blocks to secure our arrangements. She also showed photographs of her previous work, including a beautiful flower arch.
Mini's dad explained his role as an entrepreneur who "solves problems." He showcased remarkable innovations, including medicine that eliminates the need for injections, and described his journey to becoming an entrepreneur.
Amelia's mum demonstrated how mathematics can take you around the world! After travelling to numerous countries, she now works at Archerfield where she's developed cooking classes for new chefs. They even made us cakes!

Parents at Work: P5Y
P5Y was fortunate to receive visits from several parents with diverse careers:
Anna's mum, a lawyer, gave such an inspiring presentation about her profession that Julia "talked about it for two days afterwards nonstop." Anna's mum specialises in discussing and formulating laws when companies or government build or purchase property.
Rose's dad, gave a fascinating presentation on meteorology. Julia was intrigued to learn that weather forecasting played a crucial role in winning the Second World War, as armies could use weather information to determine their strategies. "I really want to learn more about this fascinating job, inspired by Mr Taylor."
Orianna's mum works as a Revenue Manager. She determines room pricing strategies throughout the year, adjusting rates based on seasons, events (like Taylor Swift concerts!), and hotel quality. The role requires extensive travel to destinations such as Sicily and Glasgow, strategic thinking, and careful observation of market trends.
"We think that the most fun part about being a RM is being able to travel and getting to try the food in different hotels!" – Olivia and Liana, P5Y
Melina's mum delivered an informative talk about breast cancer that particularly resonated with Eliza, who aspires to become a doctor. "I learnt that you get breast cancer because of a naughty or bad cell which can get worse!" The presentation highlighted the importance of early hospital visits and the extensive study required to specialise in this field.
