St George's Students Celebrate Another Year of Outstanding SQA Results

We are delighted to celebrate another excellent set of examination results at St George’s with our graduating class of 2025.
- 78% of all Higher and Advanced Higher grades are at A/B
- 29% of all Lower 6th students achieved straight A grades in all their Highers
- Languages are flourishing in contrast to national trends, with 100% of all Higher results in Latin, Spanish and Mandarin at grade A
- Nearly 1 in every 3 Lower 6th students have studied Higher Mathematics, with 78% of their grades an A
- Our students are going on to study a vast array of subjects including Medicine; Mathematical Physics; 3D Modelling; Music and Sound Recording; Modern and Medieval Languages; Veterinary Medicine; Mechanical Engineering; Microbiology and Mathematics. These are just the courses beginning with ‘M’!
- The ambition and diversity of student destinations is testament to their hard work first and foremost, but also the individual choice of personalised curriculum pathways offered at St George’s and from the teachers’ talent at nurturing students’ strengths and inspiring each girl’s interests.

Illustrative of the school’s emphasis upon dispelling stereotypes of any kind, we are proud of the high proportion of students succeeding in traditionally male-dominated subjects like Computing Science. This year, 85% of our Computing students achieved a grade A at Higher. Given that in 2024 the national Higher Computing A grade statistic was 42%, it is clear St George’s students are setting a high standard. Similarly, against a 43% national statistic in 2024, 78% of our Higher Mathematicians achieved an A grade this year. Given nearly 1 in every 3 Lower 6th students have chosen Maths as one of their Highers this reflect both depth and breadth of mathematical interest and performance.
Whilst headlines cannot do justice to each individual student’s story, the strength of overall academic outcomes is indicated by the fact that 78% of all Higher and Advanced Higher results were graded at A or B, putting our students in a strong position to apply for and accept the courses of their choice.

There have been excellent performances across the whole curriculum which reflect the importance we place upon encouraging each student to choose the path that best suits and inspires them. It has been particularly pleasing to see 100% A grades awarded in Latin, Mandarin and Spanish Highers and Music, Mandarin, Classics and Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS) Advanced Higher, for example. Shining a spotlight on some curriculum areas might put others in the shade, but the exciting diversity and range of university places and courses being pursued by all the St George’s graduates is testament to their skills and abilities across the full range of subjects on offer.
We take great pride in the strong relationships within our school community and the breadth and balance of the education we offer. A sample of the journeys of a small number of our graduates provides a sense of just how impressive, grounded and individual they are.

Stella found her passion for engineering at St George’s – specifically mechanical and automotive engineering – because she loves understanding how things work. She said: ‘Maths, physics, and mechanics have been the foundation of my academic studies at St George’s, sparking my curiosity. One of my most exciting projects was helping to set up the F1 in Schools initiative as well as seeing our team progress to the national level. I’ve also been a Young STEM Leader, where I’ve led sessions on STEM-related topics, delivered presentations, and organised events like the recent Aerospace Careers Day. Outside the classroom, I’ve been head editor of the school’s ‘Independent Women’ magazine – our main achievement was to publish the first issue for five years and rebuild the brand. Balancing my editorial responsibilities with STEM studies has helped me develop a diverse skill set.’
Stella is going on to study Mechanical Engineering at Lancaster University having achieved top grades in her Mathematics, Mechanics and Physics Advanced Higher examinations this summer.

Charlotte joined St George’s in Primary 4 from a local school. She said: “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve enjoyed here, and believe that the small class sizes, supportive teachers, and breadth of subject choices have been crucial in shaping my confidence and ambition. The all-girls environment has given me the freedom to explore my interests without external pressures. Outside academic life, I’ve participated in a variety of co-curricular activities, including playing the clarinet; and my volunteering roles have been really rewarding – from assisting with the Remove History class to co-running the Middle School Debating Club. Looking ahead, I’m excited about studying Law at university and the possibilities it will bring. St George’s has provided me with a strong foundation, and I feel very well-prepared for the challenges to come." Charlotte achieved great grades in her English, History and Classics Advanced Highers and will be studying Law at King’s College London next year.

Kiana came to St Georges from Germany. She explained: “I’ve always had a love for science, especially problem-solving and understanding how things fit together and work. My interest in veterinary medicine grew naturally from my love of animals, having grown up in the countryside with horses, chickens, and dogs. Throughout my time here, I’ve been involved in some incredible experiences. One of the recent highlights was our Biology field trip to Millport; and my Biology teacher also recommended that I visit the Roslin Institute, where we explored avian flu testing and ELISA laboratory techniques. These experiences really deepened my interest in the field. Beyond science, music has been a huge part of my education here: I played the violin in the orchestra and joined the school ceilidh band. Outside of school, I’m a keen horse rider and represented Scotland at the World Internationals in 2023. I feel ready for my next challenge thanks to everything I’ve gained from my time at St George’s." Kiana achieved all the grades she needed this summer for a sought-after place at Edinburgh university to read Veterinary Medicine but we are certain she will continue to cultivate her many skills in other areas too!
Head, Carol Chandler-Thompson, commented: “We are incredibly proud of each and every one of these independently-minded confident young women who are ready to make their mark in the world, make a positive contribution to society, with the backing of lifelong friendships and a solid foundation from St George’s.
