Music at St George's Lower School

Music in Primary 6, Primary 7 (Remove) and Secondary 1 (Lower 4)

Girls at St George’s can be heard practising and performing a range of music throughout the school day and into early evening. Opportunities for concert performance are widely available.

The excitement of making music with others is available to all students through choirs and instrumental ensembles, and a very full performance programme, including staged productions.

Individual music lessons are available on all orchestral and band instruments as well as voice, piano, theory and pipes, fiddle and drums, taught by a large team of outstanding specialist teachers.

Music benefits from superb facilities in the purpose-built Robertson Music Centre, which boasts class teaching spaces, including extensive Music Technology provision, attractive instrumental teaching rooms and a 200 seat auditorium, as well as dedicated music teaching and rehearsing rooms in both the Junior and Lower Schools.

Curriculum Music

Music lessons during Lower School cover performance, listening and writing music (composition). Singing is taught throughout Lower School, and the pupils also have opportunities to learn how to play instruments in lessons including keyboards and African drums.

The Robertson Music Centre also benefits from being equipped with a computer suite and a set of classroom iPads, which are used during some Remove and Lower 4 lessons.

Lower School pupils cover a wide range of musical genres in lessons, for instance, World music, Blues, Musicals, Popular music and Classical music.
