Nursery Activities and Trips

Nursery Activities and Trips

During the morning, children participate in learning experiences through planned and spontaneous play. The children experience sessions in PE, ballet, music, drama, art, library (including stories, instruments and songs), outdoor learning and woodwork.

In the afternoon, we often visit Murrayfield House Care Home, where children play games and hear stories with the elderly residents. There is a nursery art club where the children explore all types of imaginative creativity and free expression whilst developing their fine motor skills, a yoga club, and themed science activities.

Activities with specialist staff in our nursery

We enjoy music lessons with a specialist primary music teacher each week who introduces the children to a wide variety of music and song through play-based interactive experiences. Children play a range of percussion instruments and learn about rhythm.

In addition specialist, PE teachers introduce children to basic movement, object-control and balancing. Girls and boys practise the skills of running, jumping, skipping, climbing, balancing, throwing and catching, in a variety of contexts.

Trips

St George’s is within easy reach of the museums, theatres and concert halls of one of the world's most vibrant and culturally exciting cities.

We make use of our extensive school campus and being surrounded by a leafy suburban area of Edinburgh to go on local walks supporting children's health and physical development.

To enhance learning and to link with key curricular themes, the children in our Nursery regularly go on visits to Edinburgh Zoo, the Gallery of Modern Art, the Botanical Gardens, Jupiter Artland, the Secret Herb Garden, Silverknowes beach, Almond Valley Farm, Chambers Street Museum and Edinburgh Castle.
