Upper School Sport and PE

St George’s provides specialist teaching and a breadth of opportunity for every girl. It’s a “sport for all approach”, encouraging all girls to participate and enjoy sporting activities regardless of ability.

The emphasis is on encouraging the girls to make informed decisions about their participation. For some this will involve the substantial commitment required in high performance teams and groups and, for others their involvement may be at a more recreational level.

An extensive programme of inter-school sporting fixtures (after school and on Saturdays) allows all school teams to compete regularly in hockey, tennis, athletics, netball, badminton, squash and cross country running. Upper School teams compete at district and national level with up to 300 girls playing in fixtures each Saturday morning.

Judo, fencing, table tennis and sailing clubs add variety and enhance the sports provision. In addition, swimmers, skiers and horse-riders have the opportunity to represent their school in local and national competitions, and dancers can create work to perform at the school dance show.

Excellent on-site sport facilities including an all-weather full size hockey/12 tennis court astro, 50m athletics track with high and long jump, indoor games hall, two gyms, squash and netball courts, and playing fields, enable a wide range of sports.
