St George's Archives

St George's School Archives

The Archives is a repository for records representing the history of St George’s, its staff, its students, and its place within the history of girls' and women's education. Records span from the founding of St George’s Hall Classes in 1876 through to the present day.

 St Margaret's School, Edinburgh Archives

St Margaret's School was founded in 1890 by James Buchanan, and flourished as a school offering education for girls until it closed on June 10th, 2010. Due to the shared aims of both schools select records of St Margaret’s School, (and Lansdowne House School) have been stored with St George’s Archives. The St Margaret's collection also includes records of St Hilary’s School, which merged with St Margaret’s in 1983.

The School Archives is housed on the top floor of the Upper School. If you wish to arrange a visit or to contact us with an enquiry, please email us at: archives@stge.org.uk.

The Archives is delighted to accept donations of relevant material that increase the richness of the collections, such as diaries, correspondence and photographs. Should you wish to donate any items relating to your or a relative’s time at St George’s, please get in touch.

Normal working hours are Fridays from 10:00 to 17:00.
