Junior School at St George's
At St George’s our focus is always on the INDIVIDUAL
Much of the ongoing success of the Junior School at St George’s is due to our size – we are a small junior school - and the benefits this provides to our pupils. As a consequence, everyone is well known and there is a strong family community. There is a clear bond between St George's and its families.
Known for our pioneering heritage, a child-focused, stimulating and enjoyable curriculum offers an excellent breadth of opportunities where each child’s achievements are valued and celebrated.
Inclusion is an important facet in the school and multicultural diversity is regularly recognised.
Smaller class sizes
Our class sizes in Junior School are small, usually 14 – 20 pupils, which allows teaching staff to know each child very well. Dedicated classroom assistants further enhance this high staff to pupil ratio adding extra support for all.
Our Primary year groups are split into two distinct stages: Lower Primary (Primary 1 and 2) and Middle Primary (Primary 3, 4 and 5). Each year group consists of one or two classes. After Primary 5, pupils join our Lower School for Primary 6.
Genuine individual attention
Our staff have time to get to know each pupil on a personal level, allowing them to monitor their social, emotional and academic progress closely. Teachers can focus on the specific needs of an individual and tailor the curriculum to support their unique strengths, and different learning styles, adding more challenge or support, when necessary.
Specialist teaching from an early age
We take advantage of specialist teaching from an early age using the expertise of our subject specialists in Modern Languages, Music, PE, Art and Drama. Learning is further enhanced through a progressive and creative environmental Outdoor Learning programme in our outdoor classroom areas including the popular ‘Fantastical Forest’.
An emphasis on extra-curricular activities
Pupils follow a holistic approach to education. We place equal emphasis across all extra-curricular subjects and academic areas.
We also offer a large number of activities after school, ranging from Science Club, Orchestra, IT, Chess and Fencing, to Hockey, Art, Eco Club, Chinese, and many more.
Addressing disruption and providing engaging home learning
Online home learning takes over from face-to-face teaching in the classroom if School is closed following Government guidelines. Our laser focus on teaching to individuals’ needs means we maintain the continuity and flow of learning for each of our children. With online home learning, we are able to provide high quality, live teaching supplemented with individual pastoral support for families to ensure that children stay motivated and feel connected and well supported by school.
Wrap-around care for parents
We offer efficient and flexible wrap-around care for 50 weeks of the year. During term-time, this runs from 7.45am until 6.00pm; this includes a pre-school Breakfast Club and an After-School facility. We offer Holiday club services from 8.00am until 5.00pm during the school holidays.
