Admission to St George's Lower School (Primary 6 – Secondary 1 )
Applying for a place in our Lower School
We believe that the ideal time to join St George’s is at the transition point from Junior School to Lower School which takes place on entering Primary 6. Our Primary 6 girls have their last year of primary education in the new environment of Lower School before moving up into Primary 7 where our girls start secondary education a year earlier than in most other schools.
In the final year of Lower School, our S1 students benefit from the increased responsibilities of leadership roles and from having had two years of secondary teaching rather than one, before moving to the new environment of Upper School.
When to Apply
Girls can join us into each year-group of P6, P7 and S1 any time of the year subject to spaces being available.
Girls are expected to complete entrance tests comprising of papers testing language, mathematical and reasoning (verbal and non-verbal) ability. Places are allocated based on performance in these tests and evidence from a recent school report.
P6, P7 and S1 Assessment Morning: Saturday 19 January 2019. New enquiries after this date can sit assessments at a mutually convenient time.
Entrance assessments can be arranged at a girl’s current school for overseas applicants or those living some distance from Edinburgh.
Girls are invited to spend a full day with the class of girls to which admission is sought. This is a great opportunity for your daughter to experience a normal day at St George’s and a chance for her to meet her peer group. A ‘buddy’ is always appointed and your daughter will attend lessons, sports and activities alongside her buddy.
