More than a Grade: Celebrating our Qualification Scotland Results 2026

This week, our Upper and Lower Sixth girls opened their results, and once again, the numbers tell a strong story.

In Lower Sixth:

• 67% of Higher grades were an A, with 89% at A/B, and a third of students achieved straight As across the board.

In Upper Sixth:

• 65% of Advanced Higher grades were an A

• 84% at A/B. Music, Drama, Chinese and French achieved 100% A grades at both Higher and Advanced Higher

• Social Sciences, Modern Studies, History, Geography, RMPS and Economics, saw 81% of grades at A.

But at St George's, we have never believed a results day is only about the grades on the page. It's about what girls choose to do with them, and this year, that story is as varied as the girls themselves.

Not one path, but many

Some of our leavers are heading straight to some of the UK's most competitive universities: this year's cohort has secured places across Scotland's leading universities, including Glasgow, St Andrews and Edinburgh, and at institutions such as Cambridge, UCL and Durham. That's a real and significant achievement, and one we're proud of.

But it's only part of the picture. Nearly a quarter of our leavers are heading into STEM subjects, from medicine to aeronautical engineering to computing science, fields where women remain under-represented nationally, and where our girls are choosing to lead rather than follow. Others are pursuing law, economics, fine art, architecture and the creative industries. And a meaningful number are choosing something other than the traditional three-year degree altogether: gap years, degree apprenticeships, and specialist creative pathways that don't fit neatly into a league table.

We think that matters. A school's job isn't to funnel every girl down the same route; it's to make sure she leaves confident enough to choose the right one for her, whatever that looks like.

In their own words

Lucy heading into Computing Science, says the school pushed me to try new things and then given me opportunities to grow, a subject still dominated nationally by male students, and one more of our girls are choosing every year.

Fenella bound for Fashion Design, points to the school's all-girls environment as the reason she found her voice: you have the space to speak your mind, you don't feel pressure to be quiet, you are encouraged to share your opinions.

Ariana who leaves this summer for university, sums up what many of this year's leavers say about their six years here: wherever you go for your next stage, at St George's you've built the skills and confidence to do it and know you're going to be okay.

Proud of the whole picture

Behind every headline statistic is a young woman who's had her own journey to get here. We're proud of the girls with a clutch of A grades heading to Scotland's leading universities, and just as proud of the girl choosing a gap year to work out what's next, and the girl walking straight into a degree apprenticeship instead of a lecture hall.
