Living our Purpose
A bold beginning
St George’s was founded in 1888 by women who refused to accept the limits placed on girls’ education.
Led by Dame Sarah Mair, it began with a conviction that girls should have the freedom to learn, to think independently and to shape their own future.
This was never just about opening a school. It was about opening doors.
Where girls grow fearless and free
This is our purpose. It guides our decisions, inspires our people and honours our founders.
It comes to life through three principles:
1. Stronger me, stronger we
Opportunity isn’t equal but we’re changing that. Our impact goes beyond our school gates, to empower girls across our community. Through initiatives like Fearless Women in Computing, Fearless Fridays and wellbeing events designed for girls, we build confidence, spark ambition and connect the next generation.
2. See it. Be it
We have zero tolerance for anything that holds her back. Here, girls lead - in STEM, on the pitch, on the stage, in debate and in the classroom. No stereotypes. No limits. Surrounded by role models who use their voice and open doors, our girls learn to do the same.
3. Close the gap
Our Signature Curriculum actively champions subjects and pathways where women are underrepresented - from Physics and Computing to Politics and Design Technology. Here, there is no confidence or attainment gap. Because when girls are given the space they deserve - physically and psychologically - they engage more, achieve more and stay in the game longer.

Girls should never be pushed to the edges - of the classroom, the playground or their potential.
