Sport Round Up Spring 2025 Feature

The spring term has seen exceptional sporting achievements across multiple disciplines, with St George's students demonstrating remarkable determination and team spirit. From national selections to tournament victories, our athletes continue to excel both individually and collectively.

Tennis

Our U18 (Senior students) and U15 (S3s) tennis players represented the school admirably at Dollar Academy's Tennis Tournament. The competition provided valuable match experience as our players demonstrated skill and sportsmanship throughout the event.

Hockey

Congratulations to Kari and Anais (S3) who were selected for the U15 East District hockey teams. Both students went on to compete impressively in the U15 Scottish Hockey Inter-District Tournament. Kari and the East Purple team claimed the tournament victory, while Anais and the East Sky Blue team secured a strong second place finish.

Athletics

With a record number of participants this year, our athletics season is in full swing. We anticipate standout performances in both track and field events in the coming weeks. Gigi (P6) has already set the standard with an impressive and determined run in the Scottish Primary School cross country race.

Netball

Our netball programme has enjoyed remarkable success across all age groups:

P7 Netball Team (Picture featured at top): Emerged victorious at the Edinburgh Schools Netball Tournament, showing incredible grit and determination as they progressed through group stages, quarter-finals and semi-finals before winning a hard-fought final.

Club Success: Several St George's students have helped their clubs to victory in the City of Edinburgh Netball Leagues:

  • Kari and her U18 Inverleith Swifts team won their league title
  • Clara (S1) and her U14 Inverleith Swifts team claimed their league championship
  • Holly, Elise, Ghorgie, Beth O, Victoria and teammates triumphed in the U16 City of Edinburgh League

National Recognition: Congratulations to Kari on her selection to compete in the Netball Scotland Pathway Development Super Cup—a significant achievement at national level.

Cricket

Our U15 Cricket team (S3s) made a positive start to their season with a pre-season friendly match against Loretto, showing promise for the competitions ahead.

Gymnastics

Lucy (L4) delivered an outstanding performance at the Scottish Gymnastics Development Grade competition. In her age group, she earned gold medals in bars and range & conditioning, took bronze on floor, and secured silver in the all-around competition. Impressively, she finished 14th out of 102 competitors across all of Scotland.

Rowing

Well done to Lucie (U6) for an exceptional start to the rowing regatta season at the Scottish Rowing Spring Regatta at Strathclyde Country Park. Her medal haul included gold, silver and bronze across her three races—a comprehensive demonstration of her rowing prowess.

Swimming

Congratulations to our Upper 6 students who successfully completed the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification with the Royal Lifesaving Society. This valuable certification reflects their swimming ability and responsible approach to water safety.

We are immensely proud of all our athletes and look forward to more sporting achievements as the term progresses. Their dedication to training, competitive spirit and sportsmanship continue to be hallmarks of St George's athletic excellence.
