Mel began her teaching career at St George's School in 2010, as a teacher of Physical Education. She has taught all ages and stages, from Nursery to Upper 6. Mel is currently Head of Lower School and Community Engagement and has previously held the positions of Head of Sport and Head of Foundation Office.

Passionate about tennis and the growth of the game, Mel enjoys working in tennis with Judy Murray. Projects and roles have included the creation and roll-out of the Judy Murray Education Scotland programme, Judy Murray Foundation Ambassador, LTA ‘She Rallies’ Ambassador and ‘Miss-Hits’ deliverer. Mel also works on ATP and WTA tour events as well as exhibitions such as Diriyah Tennis Cup in Saudi Arabia and the Brodies Tennis Invitational. Closer to home, Mel was a board member and then Vice President of the East of Scotland Tennis board for 4 years. These leadership positions which Mel holds empowers women and develops professional learning for teachers, coaches, university students, parents and girls through workforce development and mentoring programmes.

Mel has experience of being on several school committees, working groups and leading community-wide events with appropriate role models, such as Judy Murray, Gabby Logan, Judy Dalton, Andy Nicol, Allistair McCaw and Emma Doyle. She joined the Senior Leadership Team in 2019.
