St George's continues to buck the trend in girls' sports with our impressively high participation levels throughout the school. While only 12% of Scottish girls regularly participate in sport age fifteen, 100% of our girls are still actively playing sport age seventeen. We are proud to foster an inclusive, supportive sports culture where girls feel confident and encouraged to try it all.

Compass Hockey Tournament
St George's U10 and U12 hockey teams took to the pitch on Saturday 14th March for the annual Compass Tournament, producing an exciting morning of fast-paced and competitive hockey.

The U10 side were in outstanding form from the start, quickly finding their rhythm against some strong and tricky opposition. The U10s showed great determination and teamwork throughout. They moved the ball well, created plenty of chances, and finished clinically in front of goal. After a series of tight matches and an impressive number of goals scored, they finished top of their group to win the tournament – a fantastic and well-deserved result.

The U12 team also faced a challenging set of fixtures, coming up against well-organised and competitive opponents. Their matches were equally tight, with end-to-end action and plenty of goalmouth opportunities. The team worked tirelessly both in attack and defence, supporting one another and never giving up. Their effort and attitude were clear to see in every game, as they battled hard and contributed to a series of high-quality performances.

Overall, it was a brilliant morning of hockey for both teams. With lots of goals, closely contested matches, and excellent teamwork on display, the players represented themselves superbly and should be proud of their efforts.

Learn to Lead

Learn to Lead, launched with our partnership with Judy Murray, aims to develop girls' confidence and leadership skills. This term, our Learn to Lead leaders learned more about what is required to lead a sport session. They learnt how to break down a session into sections and how to progress that into a fun game. They were tasked to plan a session for Junior School girls, picked their own sport, decided what skill they want to work on and they plan the session. The girls can feel pride in their leadership abilities. Well Done!

Belhaven Cross Country

On Saturday 1st March, Middle School students competed in the U11 & U12 Belhaven Cross Country Race. Competing against schools from Edinburgh, East Lothian and the North of England. A late change to the course due to waterlogged made it a really challenging course. Emily and Harriet finished 10th and 11th in the U11 race. Well done to all students that represented St George’s.

S2 East Hockey Plate Winners

On Friday 27 February, the S2A hockey team took part in their East District tournament. Despite some strong performances in the group stage, the girls dropped into the plate semi-finals. A dramatic win versus Boroughmuir followed, before a more comfortable win in the final v North Berwick. Well done to the team!

U15 Hockey - Scottish Plate Runners-Up

A brilliant blend of S2 and S3 players — came together this season with real spirit to form our U15 hockey squad. After a tough opening draw, the team, regrouped, grew in confidence and produced some superb hockey on their way to the Scottish Plate Final at Glasgow Green.

Although the final result didn’t go their way, the teamwork, determination and progress they showed were outstanding. Every player should feel incredibly proud of what they achieved.

Hockey 7's The High School of Glasgow

We began with strong wins against High School of Glasgow B and Austin Friars’ School, before as narrow loss against Hutcheson’s Grammar. The plate semi-final followed and the girls dominated the game but had to settle for a penalty shoot-out. Nerves were held superbly, and we won thanks to several saves by Mary and a winning goal from Hannah. The girls won the final v Kelvinside Academy 3-0 – well done to the team!

Edinburgh and Midlothian Schools Swimming Gala

On Sunday 22nd March, our S2 and S3 swimmers competed in the Edinburgh and Midlothian Schools swimming gala with the hope of qualifying for the Scottish Schools Swimming Competition in June. The time trial saw a great personal best time for Emilia for her 100m breaststroke and two great swims for Grace in her 100m and 400m Freestyle races. Emily won 1st place for her 200m fly event. Caoimhe claimed gold for both the 200m breaststroke and 200m freestyle!

Scottish Schools Lacrosse - U15 and U14

Our U14 team were a force from the very first whistle. Dominant throughout the tournament, they played with confidence, control and real attacking flair. Their performances earned them a place in the final against Fettes — a match that was end‑to‑end, fiercely contested and full of drama.

With only minutes left on the clock, St George’s found the breakthrough, securing a brilliant 3–2 victory and the U14 Scottish Schools title. A fantastic achievement from an outstanding squad.

The U15s faced tight, competitive games all day, showing real grit and consistency. They drew with Fettes in a tense match and then went on to beat every other team convincingly. In the end, the title came down to goal difference — and St George’s came out on top by three goals, securing the U15 Scottish Schools crown.

U15 SINSA Netball

On Saturday 7 February, our U15 Netball team competed in the SINSA (Scottish Independent Netball Schools) Tournament for the first time.

After finishing top of their pool and delivering a strong performance in the semi-finals, they faced favourites Fettes in the final. Following a hard-fought match and an outstanding display of grit and determination, the team secured a well-deserved runners-up position.

Congratulations also to Isla, who was named Shooter of the Tournament. Well done to all the players for a fantastic achievement.
