At St George’s, we know how to champion girls in sport. This week, 6-10 October, our students embraced Scottish Women & Girls in Sport Week through a vibrant programme of activities, fixtures and inspiring events. Each day focused on a different theme: Leadership, Nutrition, Careers in Sport, Power HER and Sport for Life.

Highlights included our Upper Sixth Sports Leaders coaching P1 pupils, a high-energy Strength Challenge with Athlete Focused, and a powerful Careers in Sport talk from canoeist Eilidh Gibson. We also welcomed Laura and Shona from Learn to Lead, a tennis programme designed by Judy Murray, and ended the week with a whole-school Zumba session led by our Sports Prefects.

“This week at St George’s has been more than just a celebration of sport and participation. It’s been a powerful showcase of what sport truly stands for. From leadership and teamwork to the importance of nutrition and careers in sport, we’ve highlighted the vital role girls play across all areas of sport. Through strength and conditioning, inclusive activities like Zumba, and creating opportunities for everyone, especially girls, we’ve shown that sport is for life and for all.”
Christine Fourie, Director of Sport

“We have loved being part of Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week! Leading a whole school Zumba session was our highlight. We’ve learned that you don’t have to be great at sport to love it; it’s about friendship, teamwork, and making it fun for everyone. The activities we led weren’t complicated—they were inclusive and enjoyable, which is what sport should be. This week has inspired us to keep championing sport at St George’s… lookout for our Christmas cracker!”

Throughout the week, our students showed fearless energy and leadership, whether competing in Scottish Cup matches, running lunchtime clubs, or breaking personal bests. Sport at St George’s continues to empower girls to try, play, compete, and grow.
