St George's Win International Schools Award
On Friday 15th May, we were delighted to welcome Christine Jardine, MP, to our assembly. In February this year, Christine collected our International School Award from Westminster on behalf of St George’s.
The International School Award is rewarded to schools that have embedded international understanding within its community. We received our first International School Award back in 2014 and we have held it continuously for the last 12 years. Over the years we have progressed through the levels as determined by the British Council, as our international programme has grown and developed. We have taken on board the feedback that is issued with every application to ensure that we strive to improve.
Examples of activities highlighted in our application for reaccreditation:
- Global Perspectives course in the S2 curriculum, that is continuously updated to ensure its relevance
- BAME society which celebrates our diverse community and shaped our Culture Day (this year marking its 3rd run!)
- Eco Day / World Day
- Outdoor Education Camps
- International Women’s Day Celebrations; our recent move to One Campus has enabled our Middle and Upper School students to celebrate together
- Model UN which is attended weekly by dedicated students looking to explore and debate international affairs. In December, St George’s hosted students from 13 local schools who were inspired by our keynote speaker’s topics on human rights and the UN’s blueprint for eradicating global poverty.
- Our exchange programme which has been thriving for over 58 years. We connect with eleven partner schools in Australia, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States. Over the last 10 years, we have sent 135 S2 students to North America and 67 Sixth Form students to the Southern Hemisphere.
- Globetrotters club
- Digital Art competition with our partner school in India
To be recognised with ‘Outstanding Development of the International Dimension in the Curriculum’ is a wonderful attribution to the hard work of our teachers, support staff, and students.
