World Music Celebration
On Wednesday 3rd June, St George’s welcomed pupils from Blackhall Primary School and Roseburn Primary School for a fantastic World Music Celebration Day, celebrating music, creativity and cultures from around the globe.
The day began with an energetic whole-group warm-up, where children from all three schools quickly came together to create a musical performance. Within just ten minutes, different groups had learned and performed separate rhythms and musical parts before combining them into one impressive piece. A remarkable achievement that perfectly demonstrated the power of teamwork, listening and collaboration.
Throughout the day, pupils explored a range of workshops, including the powerful rhythms of African djembe drumming, the lively sounds of Brazilian samba and energetic dance sessions. Alongside the musical activities, children created colourful bunting inspired by countries and cultures from around the world, leaving behind a vibrant display that reflected the spirit of the day.
It was wonderful to see every child fully involved, embracing new experiences with enthusiasm and encouraging one another along the way. Whether learning an unfamiliar rhythm, trying a new dance step or contributing to the collaborative artwork, pupils approached each challenge with confidence and curiosity.
Experiencing music from different cultures helps children develop an appreciation of the wider world and discover how creativity can connect people across languages and backgrounds. The smiles, laughter and sense of achievement throughout the day showed just how powerful these shared experiences can be.
A huge thank you to our workshop leaders, staff and visiting pupils from Blackhall Primary School and Roseburn Primary School for making the day such a memorable success. We are already looking forward to welcoming everyone back for another wonderful celebration next year.
