Are you looking for an Edinburgh girls' boarding school on a secure and private campus?
At St George's we offer a wonderful British boarding school experience in the middle of Edinburgh. In order to meet the needs of each individual family, we offer full-time boarding and a limited amount of weekly boarding or boarding for a few nights a week. Boarding numbers are around 45 girls and are usually an equal split of British and international pupils ranging in age from 10 to 18. The whole school is around 730 pupils. As most of our pupils live in the UK our international pupils are immersed in a typical British education in the UK.
Edinburgh is consistently considered one of the most desirable places to live in the world
The school is based in a tranquil parkland setting, with views of Edinburgh Castle, in the heart of the city. Edinburgh boasts a stunning landscape, a rich cultural heritage and is a modern vibrant city. It is consistently considered one of the most desirable cities to live in the world. As a boarder living in the heart of Edinburgh a girl at St George’s can take advantage of all the culture, sport and activity the city has to offer.
Houldsworth House, our boarding house
Boarding students, long and short term, are welcome at all stages of entry from the age of 10 years.
We aim to create a 'home from home' environment for our boarders in which they can feel secure in a close-knit structured environment in a similar way to siblings in a family, where older and younger housemates can learn from each other and offer support to one another. They all live in Houldsworth house, which is a small and friendly boarding house situated at the edge of the school's private grounds, only a 20-minute walk from the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland's iconic capital city. Although we offer a British boarding experience we very much pride ourselves on being an international community and enjoy sharing and celebrating each other's customs and festivals.
"There is a real community in Houldsworth House and it has been frequently called a 'home away from home'- well, it truly is! We all know each other really well and get on with each other, which means we make lasting friendships across year groups. Houldsworth provides a lot of different activities to do each weekend; this allows people with different interests to enjoy them." Tara from Zimbabwe
