About St George's a Girls' Boarding School
Our Autumn term plans for a safe return to boarding, working with Covid-19
A great deal of work is being done in our boarding house, Houldsworth, to create an environment for our boarders when they return in August which embraces social distancing and all necessary safety requirements, while keeping the warmth and home-from-home spirit. In planning how Houldsworth House is run, we are being guided by the Government and Care Inspectorate recommendations. We are a member of the International Boarding Schools Association (BSA) and have adopted the BSA Covid-Safe Charter which confirms that we are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our boarders. Are you looking for an Edinburgh all girls' boarding school on a secure and private campus?
At St George's we offer a British boarding school experience. Nearly all of our pupils come from the UK meaning that our pupils speak English all the time, and our international pupils get the very best of a British style education in the UK.
Edinburgh is consistently considered one of the most desirable places to live in the world
The school is based in a tranquil parkland setting, with views to Edinburgh Castle, in the heart of the city. Edinburgh boasts a stunning landscape, a rich cultural heritage and is a modern vibrant city. It is consistently considered one of the most desirable places to live in the world. As a boarder living in the heart of Edinburgh a girl at St George’s can take advantage of all the culture, sport and activity the city has to offer.
Our boarding numbers are around 40 girls and include UK and international pupils ranging in age from 11 to 18. They all live in Houldsworth house, which is situated at the edge of the school's private grounds, only 20 minutes walk from the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland's iconic capital city.
In Houldsworth, we aim to create a 'home from home' environment for our boarders in which they can feel secure in a close-knit structured environment in a similar way to siblings in a family, where older and younger housemates can learn from each other and offer support to one another.
Although we offer a British boarding experience we very much pride ourselves on being an international community and enjoy sharing and celebrating each other's customs and festivals.
Boarding students, long and short term, are welcome at all stages of entry from the age of 11 years.
'There is a real community in Houldsworth House and it has been frequently called a “home away from home”- well, it truly is! We all know each other really well and get on with each other, which means we make lasting friendships across year groups. Houldsworth provides a lot of different activities to do each weekend; this allows people with different interests to enjoy them.' Tara from Zimbabwe
