“One of the best aspects of St George’s is that it has allowed me to explore and expand my interests due to the many opportunities offered. One such opportunity was participating in a school exchange with Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, USA. It helped me to step out of my comfort zone. Another invaluable opportunity I have benefitted from was being able to take Chinese as one of my Advanced Highers. This is now my favourite subject: I love the language's artistry and learning the often literal meanings of the Chinese characters. If I had not been introduced to the language here, I probably wouldn’t have pursued it as my degree at Oxford University. Chinese Studies is a versatile degree, encompassing all aspects of the Chinese language and culture. The course at Oxford also offers a flexible range of modules on subjects such as history. Here at St George’s, the Uni Prep club was extremely helpful during the Oxford application process and the teachers were always supportive and willing to give feedback on personal statement drafts. In particular, preparing for the Oxford interviews made me feel more confident in myself and my passion for the subject.”
