Confident Futures Begin Here

"When I think back to starting at St George's in S1, I never could have imagined where I'd end up. I joined from a local Edinburgh primary school and was immediately struck by how personal and welcoming the community felt. I had offers from other schools, but St George's stood out because it wasn’t just about academics—it was about belonging. The teachers knew my name before they even taught me, and the smaller classes meant I wasn’t just another face in the crowd.

Finding My Path

Throughout my time here, I felt genuinely seen and supported. From early on, I was encouraged to explore subjects that sparked my interest. Initially, I leaned toward medicine because it felt like the "right" path for a girl interested in STEM. But through the school’s rich co-curricular programmes—from participating in the UK Space Design Competition to competing in F1 in Schools—I discovered a love for engineering. In an environment where girls lead engineering teams and win awards for fastest car designs, I realised I could achieve things I had never imagined.

Empowered to Lead

A turning point came when I joined the Design and Manufacture class. Despite having no prior experience, my teacher’s support and belief in me gave me the confidence to lead and innovate. That experience not only built my skills but helped me secure a degree apprenticeship with Leonardo—an opportunity I wouldn’t have believed possible when I first started secondary school.

A Place to Be Myself

St George's didn’t just teach me physics and maths—it taught me how to find my voice. I learned how to lead teams, speak with confidence, and make empowered decisions about my future. The all-girls environment played a huge role in that. It gave me space to be myself, surrounded by others who understood the journey. I never felt like I had to prove I belonged in STEM—I just did.

Support at Every Step

I also benefited enormously from the school’s mentorship and guidance. Teachers like our Head of Careers supported me through every stage of the apprenticeship application process—from preparing for interviews to celebrating my offer. Their encouragement was constant and deeply impactful.

Looking Ahead

St George's gave me more than an education. It gave me a personal pathway, one tailored to who I am and what I want to become. It gave me role models, confidence, and the courage to pursue a career in engineering while staying true to myself. I’m proud of who I’ve become, and I’m proud to have done it here.
