This week, the children were introduced to yoga through the use of the alphabet. Mrs Beccy led each child through various stretches that represent an animal or natural aspect of our environment to match each letter of the alphabet. The children showed great enthusiasm and followed each demonstration to their best ability, feeling the benefits of each pose.
Mrs Beccy drew the children’s awareness to their bodies, feeling their muscles warm with the movements. We concluded this week’s session with some relaxation, bringing focus to the breath and body stillness. Every child showed prolonged interest in this experience and asked several questions throughout to perfect their poses. Namaste!
Yoga is wonderful exercise for our bodies, our breath, and our minds. Practising yoga with children assists in the development of balance, strength, stability, flexibility and the ability to calm the mind. We will continue to explore the benefits of yoga over the coming weeks and will begin to see each child become stronger in their practice as they correct their positioning and build their focus.
