Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
The girls, or should that be lassies, from L4 and Remove enjoyed their Scots Verse Speaking Competition final.
This annual event is held near to the birthday of Scotland's Bard, Rabbie Burns and each girl learns, memorises and recites a poem in Scots in class. Class winners are then chosen and these girls go forward to the final in front of their year group and English teachers.
Mr Rod Slater was the judge this year and he found it almost impossible to choose clear winners as the standard was so high.
Eventually and after much deliberation, Emilie was announced as the winner in Lower 4 with 'To a Thistle' and Judy and Eliza were announced as joint winners in Remove with 'Evacuee' and 'Crocodile'.
The winners received a beautiful certificate and a book of Scots poetry and all the finalists received a certificate of commendation. Emilie and Judy and Eliza were also invited to perform their poems again at assembly. Well done, everyone!
