Friday 25 January saw a number of St George's students take part in the Edinburgh School Doubles Badminton Tournament. Maithili (Lower 5) and Vibha (Lower 4) were in the Under 16 tournament. Against some tough competition and with Vibha playing up an age group the girls played some outstanding badminton to come out champions and qualify to represent Edinburgh in the Scottish Schools Championships in March. Meanwhile, in the Under 19 tournament two pairs represented St George's, Joanna (Lower 6) and Kirsty (Upper 6) and Rachel and Moa (Upper 6). It was a tough age group with teams from The Mary Erskine School and Boroughmuir, after a number of close games with a few going to tiebreak Rachel and Moa came out second and Joanna and Kirsty 4th.
Sunday 27 bought the singles tournament with Maithili in the Under 16s first up. There were two spots available to go through to the Scottish Schools. Maithili improved in every game eventually beating the top seed in her final game to go through first to represent Edinburgh. Vibha was next up in the Under 14 tournament, were her class was clear and she won comfortably to go through as well to the Scottish Schools Championships.
