Remove Camp was fun! We enjoyed two days on-site and two days off-site with a balance of calmer activities in school and adventure at Auchinstarry.
We really enjoyed canoeing and racing against each other. Some of us couldn’t canoe before the trip and we needed a lot of teamwork to go in a straight line. We had to communicate with the others in our canoe and other groups to make sure we didn’t crash into the banks. We also had to communicate when we were abseiling and climbing to help each other avoid obstacles and find ledges to climb. We had to be resilient when we were abseiling to overcome our nerves and keep going. Resilience also helped us at bushcraft when we sometimes had to try more than once to build our shelter and start our fires.
On our hill walk, we saw some Roman fort remains and the words were written in Latin so we used our school knowledge to help us read them. We got to eat wild wood sorrel on our walk. Overall we thought the week was a great balance between off-campus and on-campus activities and we had great fun!
We tried activities we haven’t tried before and made friends with people who we normally wouldn’t play with. The surprise BBQ and fun games on Friday were a great way to end the week!
