On Monday 12 June, Upper 4 participated in an event based on the Stock Market. Working in teams, they bought and sold shares and foreign exchange on a 'live' online trading floor. Teams started with £15,000 and had to make as much profit as possible by the end of the afternoon. The atmosphere was electric with frantic trading taking place right up until the final few seconds!
The results were:
1st Place with £67,512
2nd Place with £44,733
3rd Place with £37,183
I really liked the Stock Market Challenge, particularly the brilliant atmosphere and the need to use mental maths to make rapid calculations in our heads! The chaotic nature of trading was the best part of the afternoon as it was engaging and really fun.
My group in particular learnt the importance of taking risks and trading stocks and shares strategically. In the beginning, we made less money than most of the other groups but after listening to the news bulletins and radio broadcasts, we quickly learned how to make more money than anyone else!
