Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
St George’s took part in an Under 13 Invitational Hockey Tournament which was hosted by Fettes College on Wednesday 1 November. The girls started the tournament well and enjoyed most of the possession against Dollar Academy; unfortunately we did not take our chances and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. St George’s learned from their mistakes in the first game and came out strong against Cargifield. With some good build up play St George's managed to put the ball away and end the game 1-0 up. We were against Riley House in their final pool game. Both teams started the game strongly and had a number of chances, but it was again St George's who dominated the match. In the end our attacking efforts were not enough and the game finished 0-0.
The girls made it to the quarter finals against George Watson’s College and had a number of chances in front of goal, including some short corners. George Watson’s College managed to defend their goal well and deny St George’s of any goals. The game ended 0-0 and needed to be decided through running penalties. Three girls from each team were nominated to step forward and take a running penalty. Our goalkeeper Kitty managed to make a crucial save during the first penalty. This meant that when Kate and Robyn scored their penalties the girls made it through to the semi-finals. The girls played George Heriot’s School in the semi-final who proved too strong for St George’s, going 1-0 up early on in the game. Unfortunately, St George’s could not get a goal back after half time but managed to defend their goal very well and create a few attacking opportunities but it was not enough with the game ending 1-0 to George Heriot’s School. The girls finished the tournament strongly beating Dollar Academy in running penalties to end their tournament in 3rd place!
