Latin and Greek Speaking Competition

Classics 584wThe Classics Department is celebrating the success of its students in the Latin and Greek Speaking Competition held at Merchiston on Tuesday evening.  The judge was Dr Donncha O’Rourke of Edinburgh University. Raaiyesha (L5) won first prize for Middle Latin. Her expressive performance of a passage from Caesar’s Gallic War shone out in a tightly contested field and was described as ‘outstanding’.  First prize in the Senior Latin section went to Emily (L6), for her reading of an extract from Virgil’s Aeneid which was praised for technical accuracy, dramatic expression and a sensitive handling of elision.  Well done also to Jessica (L5) who also put in a commendable performance in the Middle Latin category.
