Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
When Anne in P4Z read the book 'Finding Gobi: The True Story of One Little Dog’s Big Journey' by Dion Leonard, she was so amazed by the story that she wrote a letter to Mr Leonard to ask if he could come and visit her school. With the help of Mrs Hay, it was all arranged for Friday 26 January. He came to the Junior School to talk to the P3s-P5s and visited the P1s and 2s with Gobi who was a complete star – dealing with so many children crowding around her like a real pro!
Dion gave an inspiring talk about his mega-marathon across the Gobi Desert, how he got to know Gobi and how he eventually brought her home to live with him in Edinburgh. Afterwards he signed all the girls’ books with his own signature and a stamp of Gobi’s paw-print! There was also a chance to have photos taken with Dion and Gobi. It was absolutely brilliant! Dion left a toy Gobi for the school, which is in the Junior School Library, and the girls have enjoyed giving it loads of cuddles and having fun! Everyone enjoyed the talk and meeting Dion and Gobi and it was the perfect end to the week.
Many thanks to Anne for the ingenious idea of getting in touch with Dion, and many thanks to Dion and Gobi for their wonderful, inspiring visit.
