Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
The Lower 4 girls had a very successful East District Tournament. We started off the tournament strongly with a 2-0 win against North Berwick; both goals were scored by Lucy. The second game was against Ross High; the girls remained focused and got another 2-0 win, both goals scored by Kate. The girls faced Clifton Hall in the next game, though the games were short we created lots good chances, ending the game 2-0. Felicity and Lucy were the goal scorers. One of the big games in our group stages was against George Heriot’s School as we have had a few close encounters with them throughout the season. The girls remained calm and Lucy managed to slot the ball past the keeper to win 1-0. Kate (twice) and Stella scored the goals against George Watsons College Bs to ensure we would go through to the Cup stages of the tournament.
We played The Mary Erskine School in the semi-final where Kate had a fantastic solo run and scored within the first 5 seconds. Unfortunately, we were not able to hold off their attacking play and they got one back to finish the game 1-1 and send it to running penalties. Beth, Kate and Lucy bravely took the penalties and Kitty made a few crucial saves to put the girls into the final. The final was against George Watson’s College and was an extremely competitive game. The girls showed great composure and with two great goals from Kate to come away with a 2-0 victory. Well done girls, a fantastic achievement.
